GEARS Community Center

The GEARS Community Center continues to be focal point for our community. The building continues to serve area residents with a wide array of services and activities. We are proud to offer recreational activities, before school and after school daycare, preschool daycare senior activities, programs, and resources and community services for residents of all ages, from 1 year old to 100 years old.

This year, with assistance of grant monies, several renovation projects have been completed. These projects included new automatic opening doors, air-condition for the gymnasium, resurfacing the walkways throughout the Poplar Street Park, extending the smoke detector system to all floors in the building, and upgrading the emergency lighting system.

The GEARS Kids Center and the Elizabethtown Area Senior Center are housed in the GEARS Community Center and continue to provide much needed and affordable activities/programs for kids and seniors alike.

Lancaster County Community Action Program (CAP) maintains an outreach office located in the Community Center. CAP also has WIC and Headstart offices in the building. These offices offer essential services for the residents of our community.

Through the business week, it business as usual with day care, senior services and community services. In the evenings many of GEARS Recreation classes are held here.

Evenings also provide an opportunity for various clubs and organizations to hold their meetings and gatherings. Three church groups currently use the building for services on the weekends. The Community Center is also becoming popular for parties and reunions.

Poplar Street Park surrounds the Community Center building. Included in the park area are three ball fields, a roller hockey rink, a handball court and a community playground area.
