2019 SUMMER YOUTH PROGRAM

downloadThis Summer, your child can have fun with other kids right in your own neighborhood. Program leaders will lead supervised and quality recreation activities. Kids will learn social and physical skills through recreation activities, but it’s more than fun and games. This program promotes good citizenship among children, and the fun activities keep kids active and entertained.

Fee: $50/child for the entire Summer!!
Part-Time Fee: $5/day/child

Corporate and personal scholarships are available for children unable to afford fees. Please check with the GEARS Office.

Note To Parents: The Summer Playground Program is designed to provide “drop-in” activities for children and is not a substitute for childcare. Attendance is not mandatory nor enforced. Be sure to inform your child of your expectations regarding attendance.

GEARS does not provide accident insurance. Playground participants must provide their own accident insurance.

Field Hockey Camp     reg_now_orange
Participants will be introduced to the game of field hockey and learn the basic skills inFHgrades 2-5. More advanced skills and game concepts for grades 6-8 will be taught. Camp is run by Elizabethtown field hockey coaches and players. Participants will need field hockey stick, shinguards and mouth guard (field hockey sticks will be available if you don’t have one). Fee includes a camp t-shirt.

Do you like to solve mysteries? Do you like solving puzzles? If you answered yes to those questions then you should join us for CSI E-town forensics camp this summer. We will use REAL forensic techniques to solve mysteries. We will investigate fingerprints, unknown white powders, unknown ink samples and mystery liquids. Each day we will learn a new forensic technique and then use it to solve a crime. E-town HS Chemistry teacher, Scott Baylor, will instruct. Ages 9-14

Oh, LEGO®, you make building robots, oh-so-fun! The kids will stretch their imaginations and STEM skills as they use LEGO® bricks to create amazing robots around themes, such as Dino World and Superhero School! They will then get to bring their robots to life! Grades K-8

Students will learn to work with pencil, acrylic and water color mediums. They will exploredownload (1) the different tools and techniques used to work with these mediums as well. Students will work on their favorite fictional character, still like art as well as landscape scenes for their finished products. Each student will have a finished product of an illustration as well as an acrylic and watercolor painting. Ages 6-13

Calling all future and current Scientists!  Investigate what a chemical reaction looks like, sounds like, smells like and feels like. Designed to provide an introduction to all aspects of track and field including but not limited to training for the events, rules of the sport, competitive strategies, equipment
trackboth for training and competing and nutritional needs and expectations. Camp will work on distance, jumping, throwing, hurdles, starts, sprints and relays. Students will learn how to illustrate and design their own fashion models as well as their clothes. At the end of the week, students will have a collection/illustrations of their own clothing and/or accessory line. Students will be able to work with and understand pencil, colored pencil and marker rendering while creating fashion fun! Students will also get to make their own tutu skirt! Ages 6-13

2019 Camp Ladybug     reg_now_orange
This camp is for individuals who have mental and/or physical challenges. This camp provides a fun atmosphere where campers may participate in socialization skills and recreational activities. Activities include games, special appearances, visits to local recreation sites and fun learning!

Camp Lady Bug started the Summer of 1968 as a result of a group of parents who wanted a summer activity that would keep their children with special needs in a routine that kept their minds and bodies active. GEARS began administrating the Camp in 2002.
