The Wait is Over!
GEARS is excited to announce that renovations to the second floor of the GEARS Community Center are scheduled to commence in January. Through state and local funding totaling over $1.7 million, GEARS will be able to open the second floor for public recreation opportunities, including fitness classes, dance and gymnastics, adult enrichment programs, expanded childcare services, and a variety of other activities and events. The area will include, five classrooms totaling about 4,500 square feet of program space, a customer lounge, restrooms, and storage space.
We anticipate the project will take up to five months to complete. During construction, there will be some areas of our building and parking lot impacted by the work; however, we expect any disruptions to be minimal for our programs and services. GEARS will provide construction updates and potential impacts to our customers on our website, E-News, and social media.
This project has been years in the making, and we are thrilled at the many opportunities this expansion will have to better serve you.

A Community Focal Point
The GEARS Community Center is a focal point in our community. Programs target residents from Elizabethtown Borough, Mount Joy Township, and West Donegal Township. Our menu of programs includes recreation activities such as fitness classes and sports leagues to large scale community events such as Fall Festival and the Holiday Parade. Child care services are provided ranging from before and after school childcare programs in Elizabethtown Area School District facilities to preschool and kindergarten services.
Our onsite Senior Center, one of the largest in the county, serves individuals 60+ through a variety of fun and high interest activities where folks can socialize, access nutritious meals, and have fun. GEARS provides services to meet the needs of individuals of all ages.
Poplar Street Park surrounds the GEARS Community Center. The park is nearly 10 acres and is bordered by Conoy Creek. The park includes three ball fields, a roller hockey rink, handball courts, and a community playground that is open for public use starting at 6 pm Monday through Friday and dawn to dusk on the weekends. Parking is available onsite.
